Also the Norse God Odin, from whom Santa gets his good looks and his sleigh, was pulled across the sky in a chariot by two powerful goats.

There are also historical or, I should say hysterical reasons for this: the hysteria of the colonial witch trials led to accusations of witches flying to their sabbath on the backs of goats.

One of the oldest known gods in the world is the God, Pan. Though often considered a Grecian deity, there are far earlier evidences of his worship and influence even connecting him to the horned gods of older cultures and his name has been connected to one of the oldest names of God: "IO," pronounced "EE-oh."
