Hags were among the first of us. They helped the angels sing the world into being with chants and whirs and shrieks and mesmerizing harmonious hums (or this is what they’ve told me). Some occultists believe they were part of a pre-Adamic race and the mother of them all was the first wife of Adam, Lilith. 

“The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the night-demon, (Lilitu in Hebrew, the plural form of Lilith) also shall rest there and find for herself a place of rest.” - Isaiah 34:14

Yes, the biblical reference speaks of Lilith in the plural, as though they are an entire species of beings rather than just one. However,bin my experiences with them, they do not strike me as evil, they seem far older than that. They are wise, cunning, tricky, even dangerous (as all the best allies are, in my opinion), but in less of a malevolent way and more of a wild way, like a hyena.

When the night is dark and the trees are bare of leaves you can see them, that’s when I see them, towering, sometimes eight or nine feet tall with thin stringy hair, deep-set beady eyes, large noses and jagged teeth. They are always completely naked and wrinkled with saggy breasts and pot bellies, long gangly arms and spindly fingers like spider legs with long sharp nails. They walk slowly, but they can move fast when they want, in fact, if you see one, you can be sure it’s because they let you. I have seen them many times. One cold November night one walked out of the woods and right in front of my car (so I have seen them close). She lumbered slowly and turned to look at me. She seemed more physical than spirit by her frosty breath. We made eye contact and she vanished into mist. I get the feeling they could appear in more pleasing form to humans, but they find our reaction to their ghastly appearance far more satisfying. 

It is these ancient ones whom we have had the privilege to see that Darian modeled these three hags after (with the addition of a little freestyle whimsy).
